Your gift changes lives! From time to time, the men we are assisting share their thoughts and we would like to share them with you.
“Homelessness” lumps a lot of very individual and unique people into one category. Very alone people. And as much as their ego will fight, they must submit to the God given gift or die. Some die quickly. Some take many painful and degrading years.
Depression, suicide, chronic illness, drug addiction, alcoholism, job lay offs, depleted bank accounts, domestic violence and eviction are all very real common denominators in our lives.
From hitting rock bottom with a suicidal idea ending their life, to the moment when the drinker realizes “THIS IS NO WAY TO LIVE!”
Then around the block to an elderly man who sold his business and house to pay for his mothers hospital care. She dies shortly afterwards and now he is motherless and homeless.
I have realized the bottom line is NO ONE can get up on their own.
Men are quickly following Jesus and becoming saved and sober day by day and not just by targeting the drug and alcohol problem. The “root why” issues that starts them self medicating relapse are dealt with. At GIFTS we are surrounded by others with similar issues but the difference is here we are surrounded by a spiritual support team.
Tech school and social services have been the answer for some of us, jobs for others and some just need a peaceful place to be in a broken world to meditate on Gods word and to find out what God really wants him to do.
GIFTS are the brothers and sisters that have saved our lives….my life….and I love them. May God bless all involved. – Anonymous
The shelter has meant a great deal to me. Knowing that I had a warm place to sleep and food in my stomach at night. The people staffing the shelters have shown me more than once that there are people out there that sincerely care. They’ve given me some hope! –Michael
Thank you for helping me learn how to live sober. Staying with you guys helped me learn what it was like to live without using drugs to cope. – Dustin
The GIFTS volunteers and staff are kind and considerate, tough at times but they need to be. They are loving people who think about nothing other than caring and serving. – Joe
GIFTS has given me a safe place to stay while getting my life together. It has given me a new lease on life. I realized I don’t have to keep making the same mistakes over and over. – Tommy
GIFTS has a wonderful staff and volunteers that care a lot for us single homeless men. I have met a lot of people though out the times especially when I injured my back when it was so cold outside. My thanks to all of you and the churches who had the courage to put us up. Each one of you has the HEART of the Lord. That means a lot to me and my fellow guests. Again my thanks to all of the staff and volunteers. – Michael
A shelter of hope! A place for the Lord’s servants to feed and clothe and shelter those in need, with the ministry of Jesus Christ. – Mark
I’ve witnessed the world’s burdens in all walks of life. I never thought personally in my life time that I would ever end up homeless or even living in a shelter. I’ve struggled with hardship, pain and the devil. And at one time or another I’ve given up on life and faith itself. In this bad time of my life I’ve been blessed and given a second chance. The people in the shelter have been so kind to me and they’ve given me hope through prayer. I personally owe them much more than I can ever repay. To all concerned I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I thank you for your time and consideration and my God bless you and your family. – David
